I hope Mother Nature will allow us more time this year to have our cars out before they’re put away for the winter. I doubt that there are many out there who have had enough ‘Mustang Time’ this year. I know I haven’t put many miles on this year. Oh well, spoken as a Cubs fan, ’wait until next year…
Many thanks to Toni and Louis Estrada for their work with the Tire Rack to put on this year’s track day. Once again, those who came out seemed to have a great time, whether driving on the track or simply watching the action. As we’ve said before, if you haven’t come out to the track, you’re missing out on a lot of fun with your car. I also want to thank the Tire Rack for allowing us to use their facilities again.
As we do every October, this month’s meeting will include nominations for next year’s officers. If there are things you’d like to see done differently with the club, here’s your chance. I look forward to seeing some new faces on the ballot.
This isn’t meant to brag; rather, it’s from the ‘You Just Never Know’ department. The latest issue of Auto Trader Classics ’Mustang Milestones’ has an article about the ’Top 10 Collectible Fox Body Mustangs!’ If you look closely at the car on the bottom of page 10, you’ll see a Michiana Mustangs window decal. Talk about surprises…
One last item. I spoke with Christian Rose from the Firefighter’s Union, and Pork Chops are on the menu for this month’s meeting, along with apologies.
Hope to see you at the meeting.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written. The treasurer's report was also approved.
MCA Regional Director Jim Schmidt reported that participation in the 45th Anniversary Celebration in Birmingham requires membership in the MCA. All entrants will receive Awards of Excellence. 2500 Mustangs are expected. The Birmingham show committee needs volunteers to help with parking and other duties. Those who work at least 3-4 hours will receive a free staff t-shirt. Please see Jim for more information.
Jim also needs pictures of our club member's cars in parades to use for our bid for the President's award.
Besides the regular treasurer's report, Dave Yoder had a spread sheet showing the expenses and income for our club’s shows for the last 8 years. The profit this year was $626.00.
Although Brad declined payment for the use of his sound equipment, the club decided that he should be paid for the wear and tear on his equipment.
Show Chairman, Carl Kindig thanked all who helped in any way at the show. All agreed that the show ran very smoothly with no glitches of which we were aware. There were 123 cars in the show. The wonderful weather helped make it a great show and all agreed that Carl had won the right to be lifetime chairman.
Jim and June Schmidt thanked those who made the trip to slow-time-land for the Annual Kouts Porkfest for the parade on August 23rd. The weather was great and our club's 6 Mustangs garnered many compliments. Those attending were Jane and Dave Yoder--from way over in Bremen, the Dick Cornmans, Dawn Scarborough in her new Pink Warrior Mustang, Steve Scarborough, and Jim and June drove both of their cars.
Toni Estrada reminded everyone about the Tire Rack Track Event on September 20th.. All who have previously attended agree that it is tons of fun to participate. Toni needs help in setting up and taking down at the track. The only charge is $5 for lunch.
Under New Business, remember to mark your calendar for our club Christmas Party on Saturday, December 6th. Becky Campbell, Kathy Bringmam and Neal Lewis offered to help. We will do Toys for Tots again and since the final collection day is that Saturday, please plan to bring your toys to the October or November meeting. Our members have always come through with a large amount of toys for this, and our contributions of toys and cash will be even more needed this year with the economy the way it is.
Mona Steiner and Rose McClure have club cookbooks available for $10. They make great gifts !!
Events Director Brad Milliken told of a possible fall cruise to Silver Lake, Michigan. Jeeps or buggies can be rented for cruising the dunes.
Ted Sauerbeck mentioned a trip to see all the goodies in Bob Relos' garage.
Can you believe that Alan Wright won the 50/50 of $35.00 again !!!!! (we are financing his retirement). Other winners were Kevin Price, Joe Kraatz, Neal Lewis, Shirley Wachs, and Ted Sauerbeck.
On a motion by Bob Relos, seconded by Ted and passed, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35.

If we didn’t list your anniversary, let us know.
MCA Members are invited to be a part of an exciting celebration, the Ford Motor Company and MCA's 45th Anniversary Mustang Celebration, April 16-19, 2009 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.
If you are attending, you can help MCA. MCA club members are asked to volunteer at least 3-4 hours (or more if you can) of your time during the four days while at the show (you may volunteer for one 3 - hour shift on one day, or split your time with two 2 - hour shifts between two days).
In addition to "your help is really needed to make this a great event", as a small token of appreciation, you will be given a 45TH anniversary Celebration Show STAFF T-shirt.
If you can help, give your name, e-mail address, phone number, T-shirt size, which day/s you can volunteer and how many hours you wish to volunteer to Jim Schmidt, MCA Regional Director for the Michiana Mustangs, and he will forward info to MCA.
In the mid-1980’s a good friend of mine, Si Seifert, died prematurely. Gloria and Mary (Si’s widow) had been close
for many years, having gone to nursing school together. Mary asked med if I wanted Si’s Mustang. I accepted. I
drove to Baltimore and, after driving it around the block, loaded it onto a rented dolly, dropped the driveshaft, and
towed it back to Valparaiso.
Upon inspection, it wasn’t too bad mechanically (leaks in the transmission rear seal and power steering pump), but there were serious rust problems at all the usual places. The car had been exposed to harsh Baltimore winters, salt-wise that is. All this rust was covered up with an amateurish repair and paint job. Mucho bondo was used, complete with door screen to patch certain sections of the rust. This was topped off with a badly applied dark green paint job which had deteriorated, checked, oxidized, faded, etc., into a color I dubbed ’Musty Alligator’ (apologies to the alligators). The car was originally the beautiful ‘Tahoe Turquoise’. I guess you could call it a cosmetic disaster. Even the driver’s seat was from the junkyard. Oh, and it had Pontiac hubcaps.
The car was a 1966 Sprint, built in Metuchen, NJ, 200 C.I. 6 cylinder with a C4 automatic transmission and power
steering. But, everything worked. I set about making it roadworthy. Having previously owned a 1968 Dan Gurney
Cougar (sigh) and a 1968 Ford station wagon this was not too much of a chore. My original dream of restoring this
car was soon dashed after conferring more knowledgeable folks who pointed out that the time, effort, and money in
volved would not be a worthwhile endeavor.
So I drove it around for a number of years, just in fair weather and in the summer. My youngest daughter Carole
drove it to High School and loved the old heap. But I was HOOKED. I joined the club, and purchased Mustang #2.
The old ’Musty Alligator’ has been retired to Parts Car status, where it remains to this day. It should be noted that
Mustangs #2 and #3 are also ‘66s.

We’re running short of stories for the ‘My first Mustang’ and ‘Pony of the Month’ features. These stories don’t have to be full length novels or great works of literature. Please share your stories of how you got started with Mustangs and/or the story of your current car. Also, if you have pictures, that adds even more to the story. If you don’t have a digital picture, you can loan us a photo to scan (we’ll get it back to you).
Thanks for your help.

The countdown to the 2010 Ford Mustang debut has begun, and it looks like Ford can't wait to show us what the car looks like just as much as we can't wait to see it. Today it released an image of the new 2010 Mustang badge, hinting that its edgier design gives clues as to what the rest of the car will look like. Ford says its designers spent hours researching photographs of horses to give the new Mustang logo a more realistic feel, and we think it paid off. The new pony looks more defined and muscular, and it even got a cool new haircut! We've been anxiously waiting to see what direction Ford will take the retro design of the new Mustang, and if the logo is anything to go by then we shouldn't be worried…
