It’s that time of year again. Snow has fallen along with the temperatures; time for most of our Mustangs to go into hibernation until spring. Good luck to those who use their Mustangs year-round; mainly that no one causes problems for you. Having driven a Mustang as my only car for years, I know that they can do perfectly fine this time of year.
It’s also the time of year for elections. Granted, ours may not have the impact of the elections on the 4th, but ours is important for the operation of the club next year. We also will be voting for the winner of this year's ’Pumper’ award. I’m hoping for a large member turnout.
Many thanks to Bob Relos for opening his home to us for our Fall Cruise. Those of you who didn’t make the trip missed a fascinating collection of memorabilia, most, but not all, of it auto related. Thanks also to Ted Sauerbeck for making the arrangements.
Don’t forget that we will be collecting donations to Toys for Tots at the meeting. While we have all been affected by the current economic conditions, most of us are still in better shape than many. Let’s do what we can to help some kids have a better Christmas than they currently will have.
Finally, I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. This club and its members are high on the list of things I have to be thankful for this year.
Hope to see you at the meeting.

Rynbrand The minutes and the treasurer's report were approved as written. MCA Regional Director Jim Schmidt reported that help is still needed for the 45th Anniversary show in Birmingham in April. Get your information to him if you would like to help. A national show will be held in Indianapolis in June 2009. Parade pictures are still needed from the Elkhart & South Bend parades for our application for the 2009 MCA President's Award . The Tire Rack event had 12 cars participating. The weather was perfect and all who attended had a great time. Try it sometime; you would like it too. (continued)
A fall cruise is planned for Saturday, October 18, to the "museum" of Bob Relos. Bob has a magnificent display of Mustang, gas station, and antique oil can memorabilia. The caravan will leave the Fireman's Hall at 9:30, South Bend time on Saturday morning.
Valerie Frances Malecki reported that the tree planted as a memorial for her husband appears to be dead. Art said that the club will replace it.
The Mishawaka Park Department will now allow reservations for their parks' use to be made a year in advance. All agreed that our club should do that since our picnic there is always on the second Monday of July. Since Carl Kindig is a Mishawaka resident, we asked that he make those reservations.
The Club's Board of Directors will meet on Sunday, October 26th at Art Campbell's office at 2:00 P.M. fast time.
Scott Anderson's car seat will be covered at Dave Yoder's on November 28th or 29th. Any helpers or those wanting to learn are welcome.
Nomination Ballots were passed out. A list of those nominated is printed elsewhere in the newsletter (page 7-ed.). Be there for our November 10th meeting and make your vote count.
Pete Delchambre is looking for a 1987 LX hood and also has numerous other parts to sell. Please let the newsletter editor know if you would like parts listed for sale and parts that you need for your Mustangs.
Believe if or not, Alan Wright won the $30 in the 50/50 again!! (He offered to give it back.) Other winners were Kathy Bringman, Pat Goeller, and Shari Knaak.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25.

MCA Members are invited to be a part of an exciting celebration, the Ford Motor Company and MCA's 45th Anniversary Mustang Celebration, April 16-19, 2009 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.
If you are attending, you can help MCA. MCA club members are asked to volunteer at least 3-4 hours (or
more if you can) of your time during the four days while at the show (you may volunteer for one 3 - hour
shift on one day, or split your time with two 2 - hour shifts between two days).
In addition to "your help is really needed to make this a great event", as a small token of appreciation, you
will be given a 45TH anniversary Celebration Show STAFF T-shirt.
If you can help, give your name, e-mail address, phone number, T-shirt size, which day/s you can volunteer and how many hours you wish to volunteer to Jim Schmidt, MCA Regional Director for the Michiana Mustangs, and he will forward info to MCA.
See you in Birmingham!
We are planning a seat recovering clinic/guy party that will be held in Dave Yoder's garage November 29th and will start at 9:00 EST. Scott Anderson has agreed to let us recover the seats in his 67. I do not know exactly how long it will last but we will have Sloppy Joes for anyone who wants them for lunch. Please bring a lawn chair and any stories you want to tell. If you know you can attend please send me an e-mail just so I know how many to count on.

We’re running short of stories for the ‘My first Mustang’ and ‘Pony of the Month’ features. These stories don’t have to be full length novels or great works of literature. Please share your stories of how you got started with Mustangs and/or the story of your current car. Also, if you have pictures, that adds even more to the story. If you don’t have a digital picture, you can loan us a photo to scan (we’ll get it back to you).
Thanks for your help.
Board Meeting Notes (October 26, 2008)
Members in attendance: Art Campbell, June Schmidt, David Yoder, Jim Schmidt, Carl Kindig, Ron Newcomer, Bob Goeller
Two bylaw amendments were discussed:
Current Section 5. Any vacancy occurring among these offices shall be filled for a remainder of that term by a majority vote of members in attendance at the next general meeting.
Proposed Section 5. Nominations to fill any vacancy occurring among these offices shall be made at the next general meeting following the vacancy. From these nominees the vacancy shall be filled for a remainder of that term by a majority vote of members in attendance at the next general meeting.
This amendment was rejected as unnecessarily delaying the replacement for the vacancy. It was felt that enough notice could be made before the monthly meeting to allow all interested candidates to attend the next general meeting.
Current: Nominations for elective office shall be made at the October general meeting and published in the November Club newsletter. Elections shall be conducted by written ballot from members at the November general meeting.
Proposed: Nominations for elective office shall be made at the September general meeting and published in the October and November Club newsletters. Elections shall be conducted by written ballot from members at the November general meeting.
This amendment was tabled until the next board meeting for the 2009 board to consider.
A request was made to formalize the ‘Chain of Command’ in the event that both the President and Vice-President were unable to attend a monthly meeting (as happened this June). The overwhelming feeling of the board was that this was not necessary; that any such occurrence could be dealt with at the time it happened.

My First Mustang
Marion “Cookie Lady” Williams A long time ago (I believe it was late 1964) I saw a burgundy colored sports car. It fit all of the ideas I had about the perfect car for me. It was a new Ford product on the market called Mustang. To me it looked powerful even standing still. Up until that time, I had driven modified stock cars on the track at Willow Springs, IL. The track of clay called Santa Fe was where I fell in love with speed. When I saw that first Mustang, I made the statement that if I ever became a widow with my children raised, I would buy a red Mustang. I was widowed in 1981 and my children were grown, but it took until October of 2000 for me to get my red Mustang. It is a 1999 Laser Red coupe with tan interior and a pretty gold pinstripe. My front plate reads “Cookie Lady”. I keep my Mustang clean as a whistle and get a lot of admiring comments from people, particularly young men who don’t believe that an 82-year-old lady would be driving a hot car like that.
I have decorated my garage and laundry room/bath in a Mustang motif. The garage has posters and framed prints of various Mustangs on the walls. The laundry room/bath has a border of classic Mustangs and Thunderbirds. My ironing board cover is printed with a variety of “vanity plates” from around the country. I also have checkered flags around to commemorate my racing days. I didn’t just race; I won. I was the Powder Puff Derby winner of 1956. After recent flooding, I had Pete McClure install a black and white checkered vinyl floor in my laundry room. It looks sharp and completes the racing motif. Yes, I am an 82-year-old gear head – and not about to slow down.
All members of the club are invited to stop by my home and check out the Mustang/racing décor. You might even like to see the 1969 Mach I that winters in my garage – it belongs to my neighbor Pete McClure.
