I missed her every day for the next 12 years. Mr. Simmons’ wife had taken the car and they did a pretty nice restoration job on her. I would see her at show and shine type events and kick myself for letting her go. I knew that at least she was in good hands. Fast forward to October 2006. Art and I were leading a group of Michiana Mustangers to Hickory Corners MI. One of the older cars in our group didn’t care for the highway travel so we turned off at Vicksburg MI and planned to take the back roads the rest of the way. Some of you already know the end of this story, but for those who don’t, it is a dream come true. As we approached the 4 corners in Vicksburg that make up the car buying area, Art said “wouldn’t it be something if Sally was on the sale lot”. I said something along the lines of “yeah, when pigs fly”. Well friends, there she sat in the feature car spot, for sale. I rerouted our caravan into Simmons Ford, ran to Sally and then into the showroom. I had a price I could live with and the original title in my hands! They had never titled her, always throwing a dealer plate on for car shows, etc. She had gone on the lot Friday night, and I found her Saturday morning. Fate. In the words of Peaches & Herb, we are “reunited and it feels so good”.
Saturday, May 3rd was cool and windy, but we had sunshine for most of the day. 22 pretty Mustangs turned out for the show and shine at Harold Zeigler Ford Lincoln Mercury. The oldest Mustang was a nice 1966 coupe and the newest was a 2007 convertible. We had white Mustangs, black Mustangs, and a rainbow of colors in between. Buddy King from Oldies 94.3 came out and did a live broadcast with us. As always the staff at Harold Zeigler Ford Lincoln Mercury treated us very well. They provided sub sandwiches and chips, and Marion “Cookie Lady” Williams provided dozens of her wonderful home made cookies. We had a number of people stop to look at the cars and signed up one new member, Chris Kern with his 2002 Mustang convertible. It was a great day to get the ponies out and visit with our friends. Special thanks to Frank Grisa, General Manager of the dealership, for organizing this event and warmly welcoming the club.
