Chartered as a Regional Club since 1978
Vol. 27 No.2 February 2010
Well, another month is gone and we are
inching closer to spring. I am ready and I am
sure you are also. I want to take this moment
to offer my thoughts to Karon Long and Bob
Goeller on the loss of their loved ones. I also
want to encourage everyone to keep Larry
and Shirley Weaver in your prayers. Larry is
in rehabilitation and as of this newsletter I
have not heard on how he is doing. We will
get a report and let you know at our next
meeting.
In case you were not at our last meeting, our annual car show will
be held on August 7th at Concord Mall. The Cavalcade of Wheels
will be held at the Century Center in South Bend on March 20th and
21st. With it being a short notice, the limited space of no more then
three cars in a single display, and a short deadline for entries, I
feel it would be difficult to put together a club display. I am going
to show my car, if accepted, and I will check with the officials at
Coachmen Auto Club to see if I can at least have club flyers
available if anyone may be interested. We are still waiting word on the show and shines at Zeigler’s and Eby’s. See you at the next meeting at Honkers on Day Road at 6:00 for
dinner and the meeting will start at 7:00.
See you on February 8th
Note: There will be a Board of Directors meeting after the regular February general meeting. Members are welcome to attend.

Welcome to the club. We’re looking forward to getting to know you!
President-elect Howard Barrett opened the meeting by welcoming all members and thanking them for coming though the weather was snowy, blowy, and cold. Thirty-two were in attendance, which was probably a record for a January meeting.
Present were: Art Anderson, Scott Anderson and daughter Miranda, Howard Barrett, Becky & Art Campbell, Connie & Vic Garrison, Bob Goeller, Terry Gunderman, Rose & Hal McClure, Phil Nicodemus, Brad Milliken & Kim Zink, Charlotte & Ron Newcomer, Arnie O’Blenis, Kevin Price, Diane & Ken Reed, Robert D. Relos, Pat & Ted Sauerbeck, Jim & June Schmidt, Mona & Dick Spitaels, Mark Taelman, Shirley & George Wachs, Larry Weaver, and Jane & David Yoder.
A big thank you to Art Campbell for doing such a
great job on the newsletter -- especially the pictures. Regional MCA Director, Jim Schmidt reported that the websites are all updated. MCA membership dues will be going up to $50 from $40 starting in 2010. However, if you sign up for 5 years, the cost averages out to about $32 per year. The Mustang Times magazine is a big part of that membership fee and if you have ever read it, you know how many good articles about doing things to any age Mustang are in there. Along with letters and questions from Mustang owners, pictures and articles about Mustangs, dates and places of Mustang car shows, ads for Mustang parts, and classified ads for Mustangs and parts for sale.
The minutes were approved as written and the
treasurer's report was approved as read. A special thanks to all who planned and helped with the club's Christmas party!! The decorations were great and the prizes added to the fun.
For the newsletter, Editor Art says "SEND ARTICLES”. If you need help writing your article, Art will help with that, too.
Event Director Brad Milliken plans to do a bowling event and hopefully find out something about a trip through the Mustang assembly plant.
Members reported that the Cavalcade of Wheels has been advertised, but no address has been given.
Ft. Wayne's car show has been scheduled for July 17. With thunderous applause, Show chairperson Carl Kindig came to announce that August 7 has been chosen for the date for our club show. A motion was made and passed to that effect.
Howard thanked all again for such a large show of Toys for Tots and for the Food Pantry. The slowed economy did not seem to affect our generosity.
Bob Goeller won $22.50 in the 50/50 drawing. Others winners were Becky Campbell, Phil Nicodemus, Mark Taelman and Arnie O’Blenis and Mona Steiner. Also thanks to Arnie and Mark for donating prizes for the 50/50.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20. June Schmidt, Secretary
to Bob Goeller, whose Grandmother passed away
on January 14, and to Karon Long, whose Father passed away on January 15
To Larry Weaver, who has suffered a stroke and is paralyzed on his left side. He is currently in physical therapy working toward recovery. Shirley has asked that we not call or visit Larry in the hospital to help him concentrate on recovery. Notes and cards are welcome; Shirley will make sure he sees all of them. Get well wishes can be sent to Larry Weaver, 11250 Wildwood Drive, Osceola, IN 46561.
Update: as of January 31, Larry is progressing well. He can lift his left arm above his head, but is still having trouble controlling his hand. He can also raise and lower his left leg but cannot stand on it. Shirley did say that people could call at home after
8:30 p.m. (574) 674-9827.

Bob Goeller and his 2 year old shepherd Saleen pay their respects to Cpl James Szuba and his K-9 partner Ricky who lost their lives helping a fellow officer trying to stop a vehicle. Bob and Saleen live just a few blocks from the police station.

We have time reserved at Country Club Lanes, 1910 Cassopolis St. (due south of the SR 19 Toll Road exit (exit 92)) on Saturday, February 13 from 1-3 pm. The cost will be $5.00 per person for the day with free shoes for those in need. We will dine at DaVinci’s Restaurant, just north on SR 19, after bowling. This is the same plan we used last year; if you were with us you know how much fun we had. If you couldn’t make it, come out this year and see for yourself. If you’re not a bowler, well that hasn’t stopped some of us, but you’re more than welcome to come as a spectator and join us for dinner afterward.
Think about each of these items, one at a time BEFORE going on to the next one...
1. Laughing so hard that your face hurts.
[My apologies to whoever I lifted this from. If you know who, let me know, and I'll belatedly credit them.]
As you thought about each item on the list, did you feel good? A little? A lot?
Were there some that made you feel especially good? I suggest that you note them, and remind yourself to think about them during the day, or when you're down.

This is a 5.0 and has been rebuilt and is ready to be bolted in. I also have the fuel injection to go with it for $1,000 or best offer.
If you have any questions, you can e-mail Harold at hjedrzejewski@yahoo.com (March)

"Original A.M. Ford Mustang Radio"
The radio has #5 in the upper left hand side of the face, p/n 5TPZ-029105, casting # 2814675-8. The bezel is PERFECT! No pits in the chrome and the plastic behind the bezel is perfect! The wires have NOT been cut and the housing is clean! Includes knobs. It’s been gone through and it plays beautifully!
This is perfect for your early ‘65 Mustang. It can fit what we call a 1964 1/2 Mustang, but the numbers don't match that run. First $300 takes it! Photo of the radio can be sent by e-mail but you must ask for them.
Shipped anywhere in the U.S. by ground U.P.S. For any club member that buys this radio, I WILL TAKE CARE OF THE SHIPPING!! (Must show membership card #.) Shipping runs $5.00 one way.
If anyone wants these they can e-mail me at phigley@srscnet.com (March)

Meetings may be good for you! I heard a radio ad a while back; I don’t recall the exact group, but the ad was sponsored by a council of churches. The point of their message was that those who attended church regularly were happier and lived longer than those who don’t. Therefore, get thee to church. That weekend I read an article in the February Reader’s Digest (page 16 for those who want to check) by Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert. His research agrees with the church group, but he suggests that it’s the going-to-church part that does the most good. According to Gilbert ‘...It’s the community part … It’s the knowing- folks who-would-bring-you-soup-if-you-get-sick part. Odds seem good to me that you could also get all the
benefits out of a really tight stamp collecting club.” Or a super-friendly Mustang club? I’m certainly not smart enough to argue with a Harvard
psychologist. Maybe he’s wrong, but why not come to meetings and events just in case he’s right?

Watching the Barrett-Jackson auction from Scottsdale last weekend, I was surprised (along with many people, I’m sure) by some of the prices paid for cars.
It did seem like the majority of prices were more ‘reasonable’ than in the past few years, but once you got past the first couple of nights there weren’t many cars that anyone I know could afford, although I must say I was a bit disappointed that the ’Pay it Forward’ Mustang only raised $42-43,000 for its charity and that a 1964- 1/2” Pace Car could only fetch $24,000.
I watched quite a bit of the auction, and I found myself back at the sentiment I expressed in this column last July about my car; it may not be a high dollar show car, but it’s mine, and I didn’t have to pay a year’s salary (or more) for it. Plus, I can drive it anywhere without worry.

I stopped by Harold Zeigler Ford last week for an oil change on the Taurus. While there, I talked to General Manager Nelson Neal. He told me that they were looking forward to our Show and Shine this spring — “We’re going to have some fun” he said.
Something to think about while watching the snow fall. Have a good month...
The American Kennel Club recently released their 2009 registration statistics revealing the top 10 most popular dog breeds in the country. What's the secret to being popular? For dogs in the United States, it's all about safety.
Several of the dog breeds on the list are known for their hard work in keeping the country safe through border patrol, bomb and narcotics detection and searching for missing persons.
Put your paws together for the Labrador retriever who took the title as the #1 most popular purebred in America for the 19th year in a row.
Bumping the Yorkshire terrier out of the number two spot, the bold German shepherd is now the second most popular dog in the nation for the first time in over 30 years.
"Labs have been America's top dog for nearly two decades due to their loyal and gentle nature," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "But the German Shepherd Dog has gained ground recently, quite possibly due to the increased attention they receive for their security efforts at home and abroad."
Did your pooch make the list?
The fine print...
