December 2008 Volume XIX, No. 12

From Where I Sit…

It’s hard to believe that it’s December already. I know I’m not the only one to notice that time seems to move faster as we get old...as we get ‘more experienced in living’. Yeah, that’s it.

I’m also sure that I’m not the only one of us who will be glad to see 2008 in our rear view mirrors. In many ways this has been a year to forget, but, at the same time there have been good memories also this year. May we all keep those moments in mind rather than the low points.

Since it’s my last turn in this seat for a while, I’d like to thank everyone for their support over the last two years. I give a special ‘thank you’ to those who have served on the Board of Directors during this time. I do appreciate your efforts.

I consider it an honor to have been President of this club for these two years. I’m looking forward to my new position with the club; if you have any ideas for next year’s newsletters, please let me know.

Finally, I want to wish all of you the best during this Holiday season and hope everyone has a wonderful New Year.

The meeting was called to order by President Art Campbell at 7:30 PM. A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the last meeting as printed in the newsletter, with a change to the meeting’s agenda. Motion passed.

With Veterans Day coming on the 11th, a big Thank You to all Vets present was expressed by the Club members.

There was no MCA news to report, but proud Uncle Jim announced that his nephew had set a record in his ’87 Mustang GT…..8.53 seconds to hit 158.89 MPH.

Dave Yoder gave us a treasurer’s report….we have money!

Bob Relos thanked everyone who came on the fall cruise to his house and hope they all enjoyed it. He expressed a hope to do it again next year.

November Minutes (continued) On Nov. 29th at 9 am there will be a seat re-covering clinic at Dave Yoder’s house. Sloppy Joes will be served and

all are welcome. (It wasn’t brought up, but I’m sure if anyone who attends wants to bring a dish to pass, it won’t be turned down!.) Becky Campbell asked for a hand-raising of those attending the Christmas Party at the Firefighter’s Union Hall on

December 6th. We need to let them know approximate attendance.

There were only 5 cookbooks left, and they quickly sold out before the meeting was over. There will be no second printing unless we would get a substantial order for more. Voting took place and Vic Garrison and Bob Relos missed the rest of the meeting, counting ballots. While they were out, we voted to donate $500 of the show gate receipts to the Hoosier Burn Camp thru the Fire-

fighter’s Union. A check will be presented at the Christmas Party.

Jim Schmidt still needs pictures of the Elkhart and/or South Bend parades our club attended. Please forward these to him as soon as possible. Dave Yoder is still waiting for food receipts from the Tire Rack event as this is an expense outstanding. The 50/50 was NOT won by Alan Wright (finally) and he did NOT draw his own ticket, although many caught

him reading numbers on the ticket he drew out. Harold Jedrzejewski won his half of the $41 collected. T-shirts

were won by Wendy Rynbrand, Jeff Stahl, Carl Anderson, Bob Miller, and Phil Nicodemus. Election results were read, as listed elsewhere in this newsletter, and there being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.

(President’s Note: Many thanks to Rose McClure for taking minutes last month!)

Thunder In The Desert

The weekend of October 24, 25, and 26 we participated in the MCA National Mustang show in Chandler, Arizona. It was called "Thunder in the Desert". The show site was about 35 miles from our home in Arizona. We were there for all three days. We were surprised that the show didn't wrap up until early afternoon on Sunday with the awards presentation.

The Copper State Mustang Club was the host club for the show. They had 250 cars registered with 214 that showed. We got to spend time with three "celebrities". We got to meet Mary Jean Wesche, the editor of the Mustang Times. She autographed the page of the June issue that had the article about our '67 car and said it was great to get to see the car in person. We also got to spend some time and get an autograph from Kevin Marti who had a booth at the site. Kevin lives very close to the site. Jon Enyeart, the president of Pony Carburetor, worked on several carburetors on the show site including our '67. I was very impressed with his knowledge and skill. He did wonders with the cars he worked on. I learned a lot from watching him work. His approach is to not use a timing light but to do all his tuning with a vacuum meter. I would and intend to trust him to work on my car's carburetor. He said he saw the article on our purple car. I asked him what the turn around time would be to rebuild a carburetor. He told me that, if it was for the purple car, he'd turn it in three days.

We entered the '67 in Concours Judged. The two judges spent an hour and 45 minutes pouring in, over, under and around the car. They were writing almost constantly. I haven't received the judging sheets I requested but I'll bet I'll have a long list of things I need to do. The end result was a Bronze award. And, as is usual at a car show, we met and got to spend some enjoyable time with several other Mustang enthusiasts. Oh yeah, Karon bought a Mustang purse. The vendor said they'd be at Birmingham so you other ladies will get a chance to get one too!
