Vol. 27 No.8 August 2010
Well, it’s August and it is “SHOW TIME”
I hope this note finds everyone well and doing fine. We just had our club picnic and we had a great time. For those who could not make it you really missed a great time. Becky C, we miss you.
We also had the show and shine at Eby’s and Bremen Ford and the Mustang and Ford show in Ft. Wayne since I last wrote. A great time was had at both Show and Shines with twelve cars at each and we signed two new members. We had eighteen cars at Ft. Wayne and once again came away with the club participation award of $100.00. The majority of our cars won awards and the weather was really good. A good time of conversation and laughter was had while we sat in the shaded area on the Ivy Tech campus.
Once again I want to thank those who helped with the picnic and those
who helped me cook. The food was delicious as usual. Our next meeting will be at the Concord Mall in the north parking lot on August 2nd. There are a few eating places in the mall if you care to come early and join us.
As always, Howard

Welcome to the club. We’re looking forward to getting to know you!
The Annual Kouts Porkfest is Saturday, August 28, 2010. Come enjoy arts, crafts, food and entertainment. The parade starts at 10:30 AM CDT.
We must be lined up no later than 10:00 AM CDT.
Proceed to the south end of town for the parade lineup.

August 17, 1960—June 24, 2010 Donna was a beautiful and happy girl who would help anyone, even before she was asked. She loved all of God’s critters. Having horses and ponies as a youngster, Donna could ride like the wind. One summer she had a puppy named Wolf, a bobtail cat called Peaches, two baby raccoons, and two Mallard ducks that all ate from the same dish. When Bobby passed, Donna took it very hard. Since Donna had kept some of his old running T-shirts, Liz picked out her favorite one and she was laid to rest in it. On June 24th at 3:00 AM Liz called me and said “Mom went to be with Bobby” They’re together again and after they greeted and hugged each other I can hear Bob saying “You’ve got my T-shirt on.”
This was a hard one. For the first time in 78 years my foundation was rocked. Just like Donna’s cousins did by carrying her the last way, you all helped so much to keep me upright on Sunday and Monday. This is a dark time, but I was blessed to be Bob’s Dad for 47 years and Donna’s for 49. I love them both with all my heart. I want to thank the Mustang Club and members for their donations, cards, and support. I love you all for you are family.
With much love, Bob
Valerie Malecki was recently hospitalized. Cards and letters can be sent to 903 Sylvan Lane, South Bend IN 46619
I want to thank the scholarship committee as well as by Chris Paukert (RSS feed) on Jul 15th 2010 at the entire Michiana Mustang Club. This scholarship 12:29PMwill be a great help to me this year. I've been in school for a while now, but I am 100% confident that I would do it all over again because I have finally found something that I love to do. I plan to graduate from Purdue with a computer graphics degree with specialization in construction graphics. I'm very excited to finish this chapter of my life and move on to the next. Once again I want to say thank you so much for the scholarship and I'm sorry that I could We've just gotten off the horn with Ford's SVT not be at the picnic. performance division, and we've learned that the Blue

Oval's hot-rod arm is going to limit production of the Ben Yoder 2011 Shelby GT500 to 5,500 units for this model year.
According to Ford spokesman Henry Platts, the move is
not the result of slow sales, but rather a desire to
maintain exclusivity. In fact, sales of Ford's king of the
Mustang range have "exceeded expectations," with in
excess of 3,300 orders already placed.
The 550-horsepower GT500 has not only been performing surprisingly well in a down economy, it's been going out the door loaded-to-the sills with options. According to Platts, there have been three times as many GT500 coupes ordered with the $1995 glass roof option as compared to the regular Mustang. In the "News That Makes Us Happy" category comes word that a full 68 percent have been spec'd out with the $3,495 performance package (includes 19- and 20inch painted forged alloys, 3.73 limited-slip, tuned suspension, Gurney flap rear spoiler, etc.), and additionally, 70 percent of all GT500s have been ordered with the $2,340 electronics package (navi, dual -zone HVAC and Sirius/HD radio). With the GT500 starting at an out-the-door price of $49,495 before options, we're guessing that the GT500 is more than carrying its weight for Dearborn's bottom line.
While Ford is limiting total output of the GT500 to 5,500 units for 2011, Platts says the automaker has no plans to dictate how that shakes out in the coupe/ convertible bodystyle mix. That said, if you've been fence-sitting on whether to pick up a GT500 of your very own this year, might we suggest that you make up your mind... quickly.

Ford, Roush and Shelby team up
by Drew Phillips (RSS feed) on Jul 16th 2010 at 1:01PM

For the last couple of years, Ford has played a big part of the EAA AirVenture, offering up one-off Mustangs at auction to benefit the association's Young Eagles program. Two years ago the AV8R Mustang brought in half a million dollars, while last year the AV-X10 'Dearborn Doll' earned $250,000 for charity.
This year's aviation-themed Mustang is inspired by the SR-71 Blackbird, a project that brought together Jack Roush and Carroll Shelby for the very first time. The one-of-one pony car, based on the 2011 Mustang GT, features a black and gray matte exterior with an SR-71 design theme, custom SVT wheels, roll cage and various performance upgrades including a Ford Racing supercharger, sportier suspension and high-flow exhaust system. Both Roush's and Shelby's signature are embroidered into the custom Recaro seats.
The SR-71 Blackbird Mustang will be on display in the Ford Hangar at the EAA AirVenture beginning July 26th, and it will officially go to the highest bidder on July 29.

Reported by June Schmidt
If a vote were ever taken on the best car show site, there is no doubt in my mind that Ft. Wayne's IVY TECH showplace would win. With its great sloping parking lot, to the grassy, shady knoll, to the air-conditioned building with a great menu for lunch, it all adds up to one great place.
At least 15 Michiana Mustangers thought the place was great enough to come over on a day that the temperature was almost 90 degrees. Some met at the Warsaw McDonald's to have breakfast, but those of us who got up at 4:45 CDT and drove over 100 miles took a straight shot to the show site. As usual we were greeted by the Old Fort Mustangers and directed to our parking spot. Jim got to work on cleaning up the highway dust and bugs collected on The knoll was the place to be after your car was clean

our way over. I climbed the grassy, shady knoll where some members already had chairs set up along with our Michiana sign. (At least 1 other club had joined us on the hilltop with their chairs and sign, also.)
The Culinary Arts Department of IVY Tech passed out menus to let us know what we could buy for lunch. It was worth the 100 mile walk down the almost cold hallway to get to the cafeteria where we had brats and homemade potato chips for lunch. Some of us hungrier folk headed there a little after 11 so that we could beat the crowd and we did.
Door prizes were picked up and raffle tickets sold for several items. Our very own Kevin Price helped a lady in orange sell 50/50 tickets, but none of us won.
This show had been a popular vote show, so our group usually did very well with awards, since we sort of stuffed the ballot box. About 3 years ago, they went to an all-judged show and amazingly, we still did well.
Receiving firsts this year were: Alan Wright, Phil Higley, Pat and Bob Goeller, Jim and June Schmidt, Art Campbell. Seconds went to Karon and Curly Long, Bonnie Higley, Jack and Laura Berry, Vic Garrison, and thirds to Howard Barrett, George and Shirley Wachs, and Becky Campbell. Also attending were Pete McClure, Kevin Price, Ken Schmitt and Vince Springer.
Last, but not least, another usual happening for this show, was the fact that because of all the members who took the time to come on over, the Michiana Mustang Club again WON THE CLUB PARTICIPATION PRIZE OF $100.00!!! Hopefully you will be convinced to give this show a This Mustang came all the way from Alabama for the try. We are pretty sure you will agree that this is one show and took the Sponsor’s Trophy home for their

efforts.
of the best.

I hope to see many of you at Concord Mall on the 7th for our show. Even if you didn’t sign up to help with the show, join us. We can always use extra hands. Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything at a show before. All of us were in that boat at one time; we’ll help you learn. The more help we have the easier it is to be ready when the cars start showing up.
*****
Don’t forget about the track day at the Tire Rack on Labor Day Saturday. This has always been a fun day and there’s no reason for that to change this year. You can’t get enough speed to cause any real trouble on the track, and there is plenty of run-off area if you do slide off. There is almost no way you can damage your car while on the track. Having said all that, you’re more than welcome to come out and watch for the day.
If you want to drive on the track you must be 18 and wear a helmet (you may be able to borrow one, but we can’t guarantee it). The Club will have hot dogs and water available; if you want to eat at the track the cost will be $1 per person and we ask that you also bring a dish to pass. If you aren’t eating there is no charge to participate.
Most of the people who have tried this have gotten ‘hooked’. Come out and see for yourself!
