Vol. 26 No.8 August 2009
What time is it? …It’s Shooow Time! For those of you who don’t know why this newsletter is early it’s because our meeting is early. We always have our August meeting the Monday before our show. So this next meeting is August 3rd at Concord Mall parking lot. Sorry if this sounds repetitive to a few of you but some may not have made it to the picnic and/or are new to the club. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and door prizes for the show. We are extremely low on prizes! Reminder: We will be setting up the show site (by Elder-Beerman) on Friday, August 7th meeting at noon. We’ll have some lunch inside the mall and then start setting up at 1 p.m. It should take about 2 hours.
I hope everyone enjoyed our annual club picnic. This year we had great weather and great food. Thanks to Howard for getting the meat and helping me as a grill master.
At the picnic we talked about the club getting together for a night at the Cove. August 10th is the next $1 night for the Silver Hawks. We have 30 tickets for that night and will have them available at the August 3rd meeting.
This past week I met with Nelson Neal, the general manager at Harold Zeigler. He apologized for Zeigler dropping the ball at the last show and shine in June. We are still scheduled for the fall show and shine on September 12th. He has promised that at that time he will present the club with a check for $250 and there will also be food, drinks and a live remote. He has said that at the September show and shine he would like to talk with the club about his ideas for the May, 2010 show and shine. Mr. Neal seems to be very enthusiastic about our club and is planning to bring 4 cars to our show and would like to walk around with the judges. He is interested in how we judge cars. Since Mr. Neal is new to Zeigler and to the area I hope we can make him feel welcome.
Hope to see many of you at Concord Mall!
Bob

President Bob Goeller held a small memorial service for our deceased members and led a dinner prayer.
Members and guests in attendance were: Fran & Art Anderson, Howard Barrett, Becky & Art Campbell, Idella and Ruben Chupp, Dick Cornman, Chris, Pete, & Nikki Delchambre, Toni & Sadie Estrada, Connie & Vic Garrison, Pat & Bob Goeller, Loretta & Harold Jedrzejewski, Elaine Kersey, Carl Kindig, Neal Lewis, Karon & Curly Long, Valerie Frances Malecki with Robert Redford, Jill, & McKenzie, Brad Milliken & Kim Zink, Nancy & Jessica Milliken, Rose & Hal McClure, Charlotte & Ron Newcomer, Tandy & Phil Nicodemus, Arnie O'Blenis, Janette & Kevin Price, Robert D. Relos, Jim & June Schmidt, Becky & Ken Schmitt, Jill & Jason Sisk, Mona Steiner, Shirley & Stu Tremayne, Shirley & George Wachs, Shirley & Larry Weaver, Jane & David Yoder, and Steve York.
The minutes were approved as
written. MCA Regional Director, Jim Schmidt reported that the MCA Board of Directors is working toward having the Grand National Shows in a more central location. Jim made a motion, seconded by Curly and approved that we keep the MCA membership promotional running, but only charge members the $30 that is being sent to MCA rather than the club keep $10 of the normal $40 dues to MCA.
The Harold Ziegler Show and Shine was well-attended and the lunch turned out okay although a bit delayed. The Eby Show and Shine and Das Essenhaus shows turned out well also. Our thanks to Jane and Dave Yoder for having their usual breakfast before the Bremen Show and Shine. We all appreciate their going to this extra trouble for the club. This year we all got to see Dave's
magnificent job of installing a new shower for Jane. The treasurer's report was
approved as read. Carl Kindig, car show chairperson, reported that all is on schedule for the show. More door prizes are needed, trophies are ordered and show shirts are on sale for $10. Our August meeting will be at the show site on August 3rd. Come at 6 and eat supper in the mall or at the nearest restaurant. The meeting will begin at 7:30 on the west side of the mall by the Elder
Beerman parking lot. Bring your chairs if you want to sit down. The Paul Houseman award for
best First Generation car was presented to Dave Yoder for his restored T5. What a great job he did with that!!!!
Two Neal Decker Scholarships were awarded this year: one to Jessica Milliken, daughter of Brad & Nancy Milliken, and one to Jill Sisk, daughter of Steve York. Our congratulations to these young ladies and we wish them good luck in their studies.
Membership anniversary awards were presented to Hal and Rose McClure - 20 years and Becky & Ken Schmitt - 5 years.
See you at the Fort Wayne Show this Saturday, July 18th. Meet at the McDonald's on 30 for breakfast if you like.
Janette and Kevin Price have invited members to their home for a grill-out after the Dowagiac Show on August 15th.
Toni Estrada won $56.50 in the
50/50 drawing. Bob reported that the city of Mishawaka would like us to plant only approved trees in our memorial garden for members, no more bushes.
Those of us nearer the west end of Route 30 especially enjoyed the short drive to the Barille Show and Shine on July 10th in Valparaiso. There were at least a dozen of our club cars there, joining quite a display of Ford-built beauties.

From the Internet...
Every day there are news reports about more deaths. Every night on TV there are photos of death and destruction. Why are we still there?
We occupied this land, which we had to take by force, but it causes us nothing but trouble. Why are we still there?
Their government is unstable, and they have no leadership. Why are we still there?
Many of their people are uncivilized, or at least don't speak English. Why are we still there?
There are more than 1,000 religious sects and almost as many languages and dialects, many of which we don't understand. Why are we still there?
We can't even secure the borders.
Why are we still there? They are billions of dollars in debt and it will cost billions more to bail them out, which we can't afford. Why are we still there?
It is becoming clear ... we have only one option...
We must abandon California!!!

Raleigh National Show
• Jim & June Schmidt: Gold
The National at Raleigh was less than a month from our trip to the National at Indianapolis. The car was detailed as usual and we headed south on July 1st. Of course less than 10 miles from Kouts we ran into rain. Had rain off and on to our son's in Cincinnati and again at times on July 2nd heading on down to Raleigh. Besides the interstate through the mountains, Ohio73 was a perfect "pony trail" route, a 2 lane, up and down turning road for almost 40 miles.
Friday morning dawned bright and sunny, so the cleaning began. I do not think our '94GT had been that dirty since we started showing it at National Shows. After my cleaning, June & I drove the two blocks from the host hotel to the North Carolina State Fair Grounds, the site of the show. After registration and classification, we parked our pony and strolled around renewing friendships and seeing what was there. We said hello to Jeff Ford and said we missed him at Brown County. He indicated that he hoped to be back next year if scheduling allows. Friday was a nice day with
by Jim Schmidt
with a temperature about 83, breaking the string of 10 days over 90.
Saturday was again a beautiful day, with the temperature a little warmer (90°) but with low humidity. After detailing the car again, I went to the indoor air-conditioned show building which housed about 50 cars. June had moved her chair inside and was visiting a young couple we met in Louisville two years ago. When I got there they had the guts to tell me it was too cool in the building and were thinking of going outside for a while to warm up! Had the same Assistant Head Judge judging my car and I was pleased with his comments. That afternoon while enjoying the cool indoors, I saw a '67 Shelby get sold for $250,000. The owner came to the show with no intent of selling his car, but a gentleman wanted it and they arrived at a figure that satisfied both parties. I also saw a reworked from the ground up pre-production '64 1/2 that was appraised at $2,500,000. A truly beautiful car. Saturday evening was the City of Raleigh's Official 4th of July Fireworks at the Fairgrounds. The front of the Host Hotel was filled with chairs from the Mustang people watching the massive traffic congestion and then the fireworks. A fine show to close the day.

Sunday dawned with light rain. Due to the forecast, most vehicles inside the show building were evicted so there would be a dry place for the awards presentation. This resulted in many trailered cars moving out in the rain to get loaded up. So much for a show car NEVER seeing RAIN. The awards were moved up to noon and we were again fortunate enough to get another GOLD in Concours Driven.
We started back north after having enjoyed another National Mustang Show, seeing friends we have made thru the years. If you have not been to a national show, give it a try; it is well worth the time and effort. I thank Paul Houseman for getting me interested in the national shows; it has made the Mustang experience something special.
Artist’s concept of a 2011 Mach 1 (there are no currently announced plans for such a car)

During our May meeting the club voted to sponsor a hole for the outing. The club contribution and member donations totaled $187.00.

Kami: I was born into a Ford family. My first “love” was my dad’s 1957 Thunderbird, but I also enjoyed my Grandpa’s 1968 Mustang. As I got older, I realized that a Mustang would be a little more affordable choice for me than a Thunderbird.

Kami: Driving my ’92 convertible on the serpentine track at the Ford Proving Grounds, with my mom clinging on to her dog in the back seat.
Kami: My first car was a ’92 triple white, Cavalier convertible. I totally babied that car and kept it immaculate. I bought my ’92 black convertible so I could have fun with something that wouldn’t be as hard to keep clean. Yes, I’ve learned a lot since then!

One is a 5.0 and has been rebuilt and is ready to be bolted in. I also have the fuel injection to go with it for $1,000 or best offer.
The second engine is the 3.8 from the 1983 Mustang. It has been totally rebuilt and has only 1,000 miles on it.

Once again I come to you on hands and knees to beg for contributions for this newsletter. At this point I have nothing for next month’s Profiles, ’Pony of the Month’, ‘My First Mustang’, or anything else. Members tell me that they enjoy reading these features, but it seems that these are the people who have already contributed.
If you’ve read any of these features you know that there is nothing in them that would embarrass anyone, or cause any sort of trouble. After all, you write them, so they say nothing you don’t want said. And as I’ve said before, they don’t have to be literary masterpieces; I can edit as necessary.
If you can’t remember if you’ve done a Pony of the Month or My First Mustang, ask; I’ve compiled lists back to 2000 for each article. If you need the form for a Member Profile, let me know; I have them at each meeting. Any help you can give me will be appreciated.
On a different note, please check with David Yoder to make sure your contact information is correct. I’ve run into a few instances of trying to contact members only to find out I have and incorrect phone number or e-mail address. Please update us as necessary.
Please also check to see if David has your correct cars on file. Based on the information we currently have, I’ve sorted out our cars by model year, noting special models where appropriate. As soon as I have the space I’ll show you what the numbers have to say.
Have a good month...

http://www.mustangblog.com/ blog/1022143_wrecked-2010-mustang-gt-on-test-drive-five-star-safety-rating-tested
By Matt Rigney, Author,July 12th, 2009
The Five Star Safety Rating was given to the 2010 Ford Mustang GT for various safety features found on the car and here is one example of how three 19-year-olds tested out the rating first hand. The story goes three 19-year-olds were given the keys to a 2010 Mustang GT to test drive. Sometime during the test drive the driver crashed the brand new Mustang GT with one of the occupants being ejected from the car. All three teens were not wearing their seat belts and somehow managed to survive the crash with minor bumps and bruises. What's more amazing is how badly damaged the new Mustang GT is in the photos and all three teens walked away from the crash. Most of the damage to the Mustang is concentrated toward the front end of the car and the cab is still pretty much intact. This is definitely evidence the new Mustang and its Five Star Safety Rating are well deserved.
When you look at the photos below check out the one with the MPH gauge and how it's stuck on 100 mph, were they going that fast when the car crashed? Check out all the photos below.
