Vol. 26 No.3 March 2009

President Bob Goeller opened the meeting at the Volcano Restaurant.
He welcomed members & guests. Those attending were: Art Anderson, Scott Anderson, Howard Barrett, Art Campbell, Chris & Pete Delchambre, Connie & Vic Garrison, Pat & Bob Goeller, Terry Gunderman, Harold Jedrzejewski, Carl Kindig, Shari & Blair Knaak, Neal Lewis, Pete McClure, Rose & Hal McClure, Brad Milliken, Phil Nicodemus, Arnie O'Blenis, Blake Pierce, Diane & Ken Reed, Robert D. Relos, Jim & June Schmidt, Ken Schmitt, Mr. & Mrs. Alex Weaver, Shirley & Larry Weaver, Alan Wright, Dave Yoder, and Steve York
The minutes of the February meeting were approved as written. The
treasurer's report was approved as read. Members were reminded about wearing nametags. The 50-cent penalty for not wearing one was waived for this meeting.
Bob encouraged members to get their registration and hotel reservations in for the National show to be held in Indianapolis. This is probably the nearest place a national show will be held.
Eight members attended the Chicago Auto Show. All had a fun time looking at the cars of the future and besides the problem with someone being on the wrong train, it was an enjoyable time.
Jim & June Schmidt were welcomed home from the south. MCA Regional Director Jim Schmidt reported that there would be no fourth National Show this year. MCA will have a new logo. Two charters have been revoked from regional clubs. There will be some
new classes introduced at the Birmingham show. There will be some Friday judging at National Shows with the car owner’s permission. Over one thousand cars have registered for the Birmingham
celebration. Banquet tickets are sold out - at $75 each. Downtown
cruise slots are all filled also. Show chairperson Carl Kindig passed around a job sign-up sheet for our club's show on August 8th. MCA abbreviated judging sheets will be used.
Howard Barrett has contacted the Maverick/Comet and Fairlane clubs
about participating in our show. Activity Director, Brad Milliken has planned a bowling event in Elkhart for March 28th.
If you would like to order a nametag, Brad will take your order. Ron Newcomer checked with the Decker family regarding their scholarship being used for grandchildren, as well as children of club
members. They agreed with the suggestion. Scholarship requests were due by March 1 and none have been received for this year. Howard has talked with the General Manager at Eby Ford in Goshen
about being a club sponsor. They would offer the 10% discount on parts and service as Ziegler had. They would like to have two Show and Shines, with one of those including child car seat installation. Art is still trying to work something out with Ziegler Ford.
A Board meeting will be held after the regular meeting. All are welcome to attend. A motion was made, seconded, and passed that we adjourn. June Schmidt, Secretary

Words cannot describe...
Country Club Lanes, that is. 25 Michiana Mustangers and friends spent an enjoyable afternoon bowling and visiting on March 28. Most of us hadn't picked up a bowling ball since the last outing, or the outing before that. In spite of that, we had a good time knocking down pins, keeping the gutters dust free, and visiting with friends.
When the dust settled, the team of Scot and Chris Anderson, Steve and Dawn Scarborough, and Dawn’s son Josh, had the high game with a 697. Scott also had the day’s best game at 198.
After bowling, we adjourned to DaVinci's Restaurant in Elkhart. The food was great, the conversation was lively, and our waiter was top notch.
A big thank you to Brad Milliken for organizing this event. It was the most fun I've had since the last time I was with my friends from Michiana Mustangs.

Thanks to all that came out and had fun with us at Country Club Lanes in Elkhart on March 28. I walked in and saw all the Michiana Mustang sweatshirts grouped together and was shocked to see such a great turn out. Of course I was shocked at how poorly I bowled, too! Not too bad since most of us hadn't bowled in two years. Hal said he hadn't bowled since the last time we all went, but I didn't believe him! He was rolling too many strikes.
Anyhow, we all had fun and then went for some food. We really do that well. DaVinci's took pretty good care of us with pizzas, pasta and sandwiches. I've had a couple of requests to do this again in the fall, so keep practicing every week, Hal! The Michiana Mustang Pro Bowlers Tour resumes in the fall.
Brad
It's time to get together again at Mustang McDonalds on Grape Rd. in Mishawaka for the 45th birthday of the famous pony car. If you're not going to Alabama to the big party, put Friday, April 17 on your list. Head on over to the McDonalds after 5:00 PM and the club will have a couple of sheet cakes to serve to anyone that stops by. Shine up the cars and we'll have them on display. The manager said she would get it up on the sign that we'll be there and she usually throws in some freebies, too. I like Big Macs, especially the free ones! Hope to see you there.
The theme for this year’s Memorial Day parade has been announced by the Elkhart County Veteran Affairs Office. The parade will start at 2 p.m. on May
25. After discussing several ideas, the parade committee chose “America - United We Stand”.
According to committee member Barbara Glanders, “We wanted to show that now is the time for America to pull together; to stand together united. Now, more than ever, Americans should stand together”
As usual, the parade will form along Third Street before proceeding down Main Street.
Club participation in the parade will be updated in next month's newsletter.

| What got you ‘into’ Mustangs? | I have always been a Ford person and fell in love with the Mustang when they first arrived on the floor in ’64. One of my most regrettable decisions was back in the early ‘70s when I chose not to purchase a 1969 Shelby GT for $4,000! |

2003 Mach 1
After getting all busted asunder in a motorcycle accident in 2002, I needed a high performance vehicle to fuss with. Hence, the purchase of the Mach 1, a car I desired as a teenager. (Ed. note: see article in January 2009 newsletter)
The one I own.

One is a 5.0 and has been rebuilt and is ready to be bolted in. I also have the fuel injection to go with it for $1,000 or best offer.
The second engine is the 3.8 from the 1983 Mustang. It has been totally rebuilt and has only 1,000 miles on it.

The beginning of the car show season has arrived with this month’s 45th Anniversary Show in Alabama and next month’s INSAAC ‘Spring Fling’ in Brown County. I envy those of you who are able to do both this year; I’m sure the MCA show will equal or surpass the 40th Anniversary show, which I thought was fantastic. Those who have attended at least one ‘Spring Fling’ know that great memories can be recalled just with those two words.
If you go to either or both of these shows, bring back photos to share with those who can’t go along. Send copies to me and I’ll share them in future newsletters.
If you have not been to one of the ‘event’ type shows (as compared to a one-day local event), you owe it to yourself to try one. I think most of us who have been there can tell you that it’s worth the effort.
While it’s true to an extent that one show is like another, there is no comparison for the total experience. The bonding among club members that occurs during one of these weekends is wonderful, and the chance to meet and get to know other Mustang people adds greatly to your enjoyment.
From the broken record store, I’m still looking for ‘Pony of the Month’ and ‘My First Mustang’ stories, as well as more of your profiles. I have profiles to cover the next couple of months, but there are no car stories in the pipeline at all right now. Please, don’t make me beg!
Also from the repeat department, feel free to report on any event you attend.
Have a good month and enjoy your travels...

We had to have the garage door repaired. The Sears repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener. I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one Sears made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said, 'Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower.' I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4. He said, 'NO, it's not.' Four is larger than two...
We haven't used Sears repair since.
My daughter and I went through the McDonald's take-out window and I gave the clerk a $5 bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her a quarter. She said, 'you gave me too much money.' I said, 'Yes, I know, but this way you can just give me a dollar bill back. She sighed and went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed me back the quarter, and said 'We're sorry but we could not do that kind of thing.' The clerk then proceeded to give me back $1 and 75 cents in change...
Do not confuse the clerks at McDonald's.*
I live in a semi rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the DEER CROSSING sign on our road. The reason: 'Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.'
From Kingman , KS .*
My daughter went to a local Taco Bell and ordered a taco. She asked the person behind the counter for 'minimal lettuce.' He said he was sorry, but they only had iceberg lettuce.

STAY ALERT! They walk among us... and they VOTE... and they REPRODUCE...
